A 3D platformer that utilises custom gravity within Unreal Engine 5.6.
This project was created in 4 months with the purpose of creating a non-linear, hub and spoke, type level, built around the custom gravity that was updated into Unreal version 5.4.
My main inspirations for this project stem from childhood favourites of mine such as Super Mario Galaxy, Ratchet and Clank as well as more recent games such as Astrobot.
I was quite fascinated with how Super Mario Galaxy utilises a planetary gravity system where the player can walk around planets, get pulled into their orbit and hop from planet to planet. I tried to recreate a similar system fro the project with the added twist of collecting items to build contraptions as well as a more non-linear to the level design.
I originally intended to have 4 spokes (planet levels) surrounding the hub (starting planet) but I decided to focus on creating a more polished gameplay loop with the transition from the hub to the spoke and back to the hub again. I would very much like to further this project in the future with more player mechanics, buildable contraptions and planets.
